About the Illustrator

I am Isiah Webster, a concept artist and illustrator that focuses on black fantasy art and pop culture art. Based in California, I am doing freelance work in illustration while studying for my higher degree in cultural anthropology (which heavily inspires my art as well).

At a very young age I moved to Dallas, Texas and spent my entire childhood there. Growing up as a gay black boy in a conservative state, I turned to the arts early on as a means of expression and healing.

It wasn’t until my teenage years that I realized that I could create the representation that I always wanted to see. I realized that I could create worlds and images that included black characters with background stories that reflected my own experience as a queer black kid.

My purpose is to bring to life the world of fantasy through the lens of blackness. I can create the worlds I always wanted to see myself in. I can paint and draw black characters as gods, mages, and elves. I can draw comics of black superheroes and anti-heroes. It’s all possible and I want others to see that we have a place in the world of fantasy.
